I try not to think about the possible douche aspect and try instead to focus on the beautiful muscles aspect…and the whole “American hero” thing.

Amanda, again, why are we the same person? My thoughts mirror yours exactly.

Now, question: I loveeeeee Michael Phelps and thinks he deserves all he gets, but word on the deck (get it, instead of the street since he’s a swimmer and they have decks around the pool … okay, I’m not funny) is that he is a giant douche/prick. Should this make me love him any less? Haha/

Also, I loved the comments about Gabon’s President for Life Omar Bongo (and yes, I had to look him up; I don’t actually know this off the top of my head) who promises a dream house and untold riches to any Gabonese medalist. And then the mildly condescending “Oh, those enigmatic African rulers” comments.

I just loved Phelps’ quote about setting that Olympic Record during yesterdays’ preliminary heats:

“Well, I wanted to be the #1 seed for the finals… (pause, then incredibly casually as if he was about to take a nap after eating a bag of potato chips) so I did that.”

Watching athletes be so nonchalantly while performing athletic feats never before accomplished in over 100 years of modern Olympics is simultaneously thrilling and frustrating. (Freddy Adu is younger than I am! I played soccer in elementary school! Therefore, that could have been me!)

Also, the show was quite good. Having never seen that one but knowing all the songs, I appreciated the scenes more than the songs… still have to learn how to see shows I already partially know. That said, the final scene was stunningly well executed, and if you know any of the show you should know what I mean (although it’s probably hard to fuck up a scene that well written).
